Groom's Wedding Cakes
Groom's cakes are thought to have originated in the South. The difference between the wedding cake and the groom's wedding cake is most often the color. While the typical wedding cake is white, the opposite should hold true for the groom. Darker masculine colors will suffice unless of course, it is a humorous cake and then all colors will work.
Unique Groom's Cakes
The cake can be just about anything that can be thought of associated with the groom. If he is a sports guy, the cake could have a favorite team depicted. If he is a doctor, how about using a medical theme? An army tank for an army career man or an airplane for a pilot - these are all great ideas for wedding cakes for grooms.
For the fisherman, a tackle box cake is one of the most unique groom's cakes. There are assortments of gummy worms that can be placed in the tackle box for a more realistic look. You can even bake a couple of fish-shaped cakes to lie around the tackle box.
If you want to surprise the groom who hunts with a crazy groom's cake, the deer head cake is going to be quite a surprise. Imagine the look on his face when he sees this deer head, antlers and all sitting on a tree stump. This can be kept a secret until the last minute so he will really be surprised.
A tool belt cake would be a great idea for the man who works with his hands. This can be made complete with tools and chocolate frosting. Unique groom's cakes, such as this one are not hard to think of if you take the time to figure out what the groom either does or likes the best. For instance, a beer distributor can have a giant can of beer cake.
This is not that complicated to make if you purchase the right type of cake pan. Getting the rest of the artwork can be as simple as downloading a picture of the can, copying it and printing. Placing the artwork on a flat surface covered by wax paper and tracing the printing and logo with frosting pens in the right color is next. Transfer it to the cake after it is chilled. The same can work for a cola distributor or any other type of cake that will have a logo on top. The groom will be flattered and amazed that the cake was made especially for him.
How about a fire truck cake for the fireman groom? This is made by making a two layer cake and cutting it in all the right places to shape the truck. There are places that sell different shaped cake pans as well, so this might be worth looking into. Adding the ladders, the light and hoses can be done with decorating tips and colors can be coordinated to the color scheme of the fire truck. This could be a great idea for groom's cake.
Grooms Cakes are a Tradition
Wedding cakes for grooms can take on any shape or style chosen. They can be plain or they can be elaborate and a few types in between. Most people feel the important thing is deciding on the right type of groom's wedding cakes to fit the person. This is almost like an exact opposite of the wedding cake. Whereas it is important for it to be beautifully decorated, the grooms cakes are supposed to be somewhat whimsical and a little out of the ordinary.
Pieces of the groom's wedding cakes are actually meant to be taken home by the guests so this is probably where the old folklore about this cake originated. It was thought that if a young lady took a piece of the groom's cake home and slept with it under her pillow, she would dream of her future husband. Many young ladies used to do this with hopes of catching a glimpse of their husbands-to-be. (Sounds messy!)
This is an age-old tradition that is starting to become popular again all over the country. In the past the groom's cakes were either fruit cakes or chocolate. This has changed as well. The groom's wedding cakes can be served at the wedding reception or at the rehearsal dinner. Of course, you will want everyone to get a good look at it before cutting and serving so it should be displayed in a spot where everyone can see it. This is one great way for the groom to feel a little more included in the celebration since weddings usually seem to be more about the bride than the groom.
If you are planning to order a unique grooms cake, make sure the bakery you will be purchasing it from has plenty of time to get it done. The ordering should be done about 6 weeks before you will need the cake. You should allow enough time to have everything exactly as you want it. This will depend upon how elaborate the cake will be and how much work it will take.
This may be a good hobby to bring in some extra money since the price of groom's wedding cakes for can be as high as $500 if the design takes some time to be completed. There are many people who have decided to use their love of baking and decorating cakes to their advantage and now do this for a living. Making a groom's cake is not complicated if you make sure you have the right type of tools for the job.
